In a statement here on Thursday, a spokesperson for Chandigarh regional office of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said that Himachal leads Aadhaar coverage in the region with 97%, followed by Punjab’s 96%. In Chandigarh UT, the Aadhaar coverage was 95% while it was 93% in Haryana.

The spokesperson said that 45 districts out of 54 in the region have crossed 90% Aadhaar coverage. The UIDAI spokesperson credited the state governments and district administrations for providing active support to the Aadhaar project and ensuring high Aadhaar enrolment in their respective territories. “Over 1200 Aadhaar permanent enrolment centres are functioning in the three states and Chandigarh. These centres not only facilitate Aadhaar enrolment but residents can also get their e-Aadhaar downloaded at these centres. E-Aadhaar has the same validity as that of Aadhaar received via post. Also residents can update their Aadhaar data through these
Centres," the spokesperson said.

Besides, over 100 Aadhaar enrolment camps were organised for marginalised residents by Chandigarh regional office as a part of social inclusion programme of UIDAI in the past one year.

These include orphanages, old age homes, blind homes, child care institutions etc. Aadhaar enrolments of all jail inmates in these states and the UT have also been completed, the spokesperson said.
