The petitioner, advocate Manisha Garg, has sought directions to the PGIMER to allot the chemist shops on its premises by a method to ensure that the maximum benefit on the prices of medicines reach patients.

The petitioner has also suggested that an expert committee could be constituted to examine the matter.

It has also been suggested by the petitioner that the tender proceedings for allotment of various medical stores should be quashed as the rent has been fixed very high.

The petition mentioned that PGIMER’s decision is discriminatory as in all other medical institutions, medical stores are allotted to parties who give maximum discount to patients, whereas here the shops are being tendered at the highest rates.

The court was informed that the petitioner was shocked to see certain news items which were appearing in almost all newspapers in the last few days revealing that the poor patients, who were coming to PGIMER to get medical aid were being looted at the hands of chemists, the court was informed.
