Some friends acknowledge each other with exchange of gifts and cards on this day. Vidushi Bhatti, 22, a resident of Sector 10, says, “There are really very few days in the year that make me as happy as this one.

My friends make me smile when I am down and see me through during dark days,” adding, “I am organising a friendship day party which is a complete surprise for them just to thank them and make them feel special.”

One does not need a special holiday to show dedication towards friends. Friendship day (celebrated on the first Sunday of August every year) serves as s a reminder to honour the wonders of friendship.

For today’s generation, friendship day celebrations can vary from exchanging small gifts and greetings to a night out to the hills.

Geetanjali Gupta, 21, resi- dent of sector 15, says, “It has been two years I haven’t met my friends because I am m studying in Mumbai. I have come all the way to Chandigarh especially to celebrate friendship day with my friends after two years,” adding, “we have decided to head to Kasauli to celebrate the day in nature’s lap.”

Instead of celebrating the typical way, some are even making special friendship bands this year. Kajal Gupta, 23, resident of Modern Housing Complex says, “Friends mean the world to me. I have especially knit friendship bands for my friends. I started making these a week b before to add a personal to touch to them.

I hope my fr friends like them,” she says, ad adding, “It is amazing how ev every year by the end of the d day my hands are full of fr friendship bands.”

Another city resident from sector 22 22, Neha Gupta, 25 25, says, “This fr friendship day I have thought of celebrating it in a more memorable way. I would be making an album of our most intimate and special moments spent together. This can be the most touching friendship day activity for me and my friends as it will help us relive old times.”

Get-togethers have also been planned by many friends in different restaurants and clubs. A.S. Nagpal, 42, owner of Party Club 1 in Sector 35 says, “We have a booking of more than 50 friends for a dance party organised especially for friendship day from 11 am to 3 pm.

Market is full of amazing friendship day gifts. Pradeep Jain, 38, owner of a gift store in Sector 35 says, “Special friendship day trophies, quotations, message bottles and chocolates have been lined up for making the day special.”

Rinky, 20, a vender in Sector 17 says, “I have been selling friendship bands for the past one week and people enjoy buying friendship bands.”

Friendship day seems to be the most awaited day by maximum number of people in the city.
