The centre does not have the necessary equipment such as coloured printers, digital cameras and scanners. The centre does not even have a proper internet connection, forcing the staff members to use Internet dongles for official work, which breaks down frequently. The centre officials say, recently, the Internet connection was not working for four days, which brought the functioning to a halt.

As per the directions of the Haryana government, a certificate (marriage, birth or death) has to be issued within seven days of the filing of an application at the centre.

However, lack of equipment has led to huge backlog of certificates, making the city residents a harried lot.

According to sources, the staff members at the centre have been requesting the authorities concerned for procuring the much-required equipment for long. “Lack of equipment and improper internet connection has affected the overall functioning.

Currently, the backlog of certificates is around 1000,”said an employee seeking anonymity.

Criticising the authorities concerned, Citizen Welfare Association president SK Nayar said that residents were facing inconvenience due to the lax approach of the officials concerned. “All required equipment should be purchased at the earliest,” he said. Aware of the situation, MC commissioner SP Arora said they had placed an order to buy all required equipment at the centre.

STILL USING PRIVATE SOFTWARE

With an aim to have a centralised data, the Haryana government had authorised the ‘urban local body (ULB) software’ to be used at all CSCs.

However, at the Panchkula CSC centre of the MC, the private software is still being used - the one which was being used before the introduction of free ULB software, thus shelling out Rs 60,000 per month. In this regard, the local administration had also issued a direction for not using the private software after March 31.

The CSC employees said they did not have the required equipment for using the new software. Meanwhile, SP Arora said the orders would be issued to the staff against using the old software.
