Members of the Jat community came out on roads and rail tracks in different parts of the district to protest against the arrest of around 25 protesters. They warned of dire consequences if the arrested were not released.
Around 500 jats blocked the railway tracks in Gajuwala and Mehuwala villages. To avoid any untoward incidents, police force was deployed in the area and administration officials resumed dialogue with the leaders of the protesters.
Fatehabad SDM Baljit Singh reached the spot with police personnel at Mehuwala village rail track, where a group led by Subhe Singh Dhaka, vice president, All India Jat Arakshan Sangrash Samiti(AIJASS) was sitting on a dharna.
SDM Singh appealed to the Jat leaders and protesters to not take the law in their hands and continue their agitation in a peaceful manner. To this Dhaka said, "We have conducted the agitation in a peaceful manner, but the administration baton-charged the protesters on Monday morning".
Dhaka further protested, "Why did the government have to take such a harsh step when the agitation was peaceful. Now we will keep our protest peaceful as long as no trains on this route (Hisar-Batinda) are plying, if one arrives, we would block the tracks".
The Jat community has been on a relay fast for last seven days near Mehuwala and Gajuwala villages. Last year, an elderly man named Vijay Singh Karwasar(60) died during relay fast while sitting on dharna, demanding reservation for Jat community under OBC quota.
In Gajuwala village too, Jats under the banner of AIJASS sat on a dharna demanding the release of the people who were arrested by police on Monday morning from the dharna site.
