The district consumer disputes redressal forum sentenced a Sector 38 resident to one year in prison and fined him `10,000 for not complying with the forums order, which was passed in the October of last year.
The forum had directed Jassi alias Satpal Singh, who repairs automobiles, to pay a combined compensation of `1,25 Lakh to the complainant Pawan Kumar for indulging in unfair trade practices and for not carrying out necessary repairs on Kumar's car.
Jassi had failed to reply to the forum. After a number of adjournments on the hearing, Jassi finally appeared before the forum on May 18 and filed a reply to the application. He did not pay `1000 that was imposed on him as a fine for causing the previous adjournments.
"The mere fact that respondent has filed a revision petition before the National Commission, which is fixed for admission hearing on July 2, does not infer that the forum is bound to stay the proceedings. It has been contended that the complainant (Jassi) has not approached this Forum with clean hands and has obtained a favourable order after misleading the forum," said the forum.
The forum added that since Jassi had failed to provide any sufficient cause for not complying with its order, the forum had decided to sentence him to simple imprisonment for a period of one year and to pay a sum of Rs 10,000 as fine.
