Panchkula MC passes deficit-free ` 75 crore budget
As model code of conduct is soon going to come into effect, the municipal corporation (MC), Panchkula, on Monday, passed its annual budget for 2014-15 amidst a stormy session with ` 39.07 crore earmarked for development works.

In 2013-14, ` 33.57 crore was earmarked for development works. The proposed income for the 2014-15 is ` 75.13 crore and proposed expenditure is
` 74.42 crore.
The proposed income for 201314 was ` 61.81 crore and proposed expenditure was ` 61.24 crore.
The budget was passed unanimously with hardly any discussion.
Only BJP councillor CB Goel questioned the proposed collection of stamp duty. “Last year, you estimated that ` 40 crore would be generated but in actual only ` 13 crore was collected till December, 2013. You are anticipating that till March, 2014, you would collect up to ` 30 crore,” said Goel.
Executive officer, MC, OP Sihag replied that he had written to concerned authorities for paying back MC’s dues.
On erection of mobile towers, Congress councillor Lily Bawa suggested that councillors should be consulted about installing such towers.
“We have also passed a resolution of earmarking ` 3 crore for each ward. For this, ` 3 crore each for every ward will be used for development works and also grant from the government which is expected to be ` 15-20 crore,” said OP Sihag, executive officer, MC.
