PU adds 3 new courses; releases handbook of information

Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, started the admission process for various courses and programmes on the campus with the introduction of three new courses.

Dean university instructions (DUI) Prof AK Bhandari launched a handbook of information on Friday. Prof Bhandari said the university had started new courses — master of dental surgery (MDS), master of laws (LLM) at the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) and Panjab University regional centre, Ludhiana, and master of engineering in biotechnology at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET).

He said all student-related information such as number of seats were available in the handbook of information, which can be purchased from the PU sale counter or can be downloaded from the PU website.

Director, public relations, Vineet Punia said the university was expecting huge response for the admissions as a large numbers of students from all parts of the country were enquiring about the admission process at the PU.

The university is offering a number of postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma and certificate courses for the academic session 2015-2016. The application form for admission to all courses (except first year classes of the courses where admission is based on JEE-2015, PU CET 2015 (UG), PUTHAT 2015 and PU BA/B Com LLB (hons) five-year integrated course-2015) for PU campus and its regional centres at Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Kauni and Muktsar can be downloaded from the PU website.

Interested students, including those who have already applied for the entrance test in May/June 2015, would be required to submit their admission forms for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses by June 29 in the PU departments concerned or regional centres irrespective of the declaration of the result of qualifying exam or entrance test. The last date to apply for diploma and certificate courses would be July 15.

The applicants for the first-year of any course are advised to purchase a copy of the handbook of information to acquaint themselves with the rules and regulations and other details of the course. Candidates who want to apply for admission to the university teaching departments for the session 2015-2016 may also download admission form from the PU website — www.puchd.ac.in. However, those finally admitted, will be charged `60 as the cost of the admission form along with the admission fee.

Candidates seeking admission to the sports category will have to submit documents to the department concerned along with the admission form. The candidates would be required to appear for trial in a proper sports kit along with their original sports certificates on university grounds as per schedule from July 15 to 18.

The students interested in admissions may also speak to PU single window enquiry at telephone numbers- 1800-180-2065, 2534818 and 2534866 from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm on all working days including Saturday. For more information, the students may log in at PU website www.admissions.puchd.ac.in.

For the first time, the PU has decided to have a column for transgender candidates under the ‘gender’ category. There will also be a column for EWS students.

ME biotech at UIET: 20 seats

LLM at UILS: 40 seats

*PU is also working on a proposal to facilitate LLM through evening classes
