The Class-2, -3 and -4 employees in any civic body of Punjab would not be transferred, local bodies minister Anil Joshi announced on Tuesday after his meeting here with employee unions.

The Class-2, -3 and -4 employees in any civic body of Punjab would not be transferred, local bodies minister Anil Joshi announced on Tuesday after his meeting here with employee unions.

In June, his department had come out with a notification for making a provision the rules for the transfer of employees between local bodies, which the employees had resented. “The government, later, realized that it would not be appropriate to force the Class-3 and -4 employees to relocate, as they wouldn’t be able to afford that. They are recruited for a particular station and we can’t change their service rules midway,” said Joshi.

He said the government would have accepted their demand long ago, if the employees had not returned to protesting after agreeing to call off strike. The local bodies department cut their pay for the period of agitation.
When the employees approached us again, we decided accept their demands that were genuine,” the minister told the media.
