City government schools are to fill 37 vacant posts and have been asked to send the applications of masters/mistresses and language cadre teachers for promotion.
The applications have been invited from the schools for lecturers in accounts, commerce, economics, English, geography, history, maths, Hindi, physics, political science, Sanskrit and sociology.
According to a government school principal, promotions for the post of lecturers in UT were done last in 2013 after a gap of 22 years.
"It was a long battle fought by various unions with the department. Around 187 teachers were promoted as lecturers around two years back and that too after the period of 22 years. In case the department collects the detailed report from each school on the number of vacancies, the number of vacant posts for the lecturers would be around hundred and not just 37", he said.
As per the order issued by director of public instructions (schools), Kamlesh Kumar on May 11, schools need to send the ACRs of past five years of the candidate, no complaint, inquiry certificate and history sheet of senior most in respect of masters/mistresses and language masters/mistresses strictly in order of their seniority.
"It is good that education department has streamlined the promotion process of UT cadre teachers. If the department promotes the teachers in persistent manner then majority of issues of the teachers would be resolved. Apart from that, trust and faith of teachers in the dept will also be strengthened," said Arvind Rana, president of SSA Teachers Welfare Association, UT.
