Shoolini University gets `73 lakh grant from Centre

Shoolini University has been awarded a grant of `73 lakh for infrastructure development for food technology programmes, by the food processing ministry under Human Resource Development (HRD) Scheme.

Both the B Tech and M Tech food technology programmes are to benefit from this.

The financial support, along with over` 15 crore received from DST, DRDO and other governmental agencies, is expected to help the university seal its position as a research-driven institution.

The university's School of Bio-engineering and Food technology associate dean Dinesh Chatanta submitted the proposal for the grant.

Vice-chancellor professor PK Khosla said the sanction includes assistance for purchasing 26 major machines and equipment related to food processing, a canning line and a dairy processing line.

It also includes `5 lakh for buying over 500 books related to the subject.

The V-C said the institution was also going to produce marketable food, vegetable and dairy products as a pilot project, giving the students a chance to “earn while they learn”.

Setting up of a food testing laboratory worth `3 crore is also in the pipeline. This is expected to help the university launch itself as a Centre for Excellence in Food Technology.
