With plans of holding interactive sessions across the country, Himalaya Drug Company chose Chandigarh to initiate their sessions - Mums Vs Fussy Eating - at Park Plaza, Sector 17, on Thursday. These sessions are an effort to help moms deal with the problem of kids' fussy eating.
At the event, 40 participating mothers were addressed by Dr Gaurav Gupta, a pediatrician from SAS Nagar and Dr Archana, senior research scientist, Himalaya Drug Company. About the reason behind choosing Chandigarh for a head start, Dr Archana (37) from Bangalore says, "Chandigarh has a lot of educated population, so we thought initiating our sessions from here would be a good idea, An MD in ayurveda, Dr Archana further adds, "Our purpose behind this effort is to educate mothers who are anxious about their child's nutrition.
We also want to inform the urban population that the term 'malnutrition' is not associated just with the poor. Many kids from wealthy families also suffer from malnutrition these days.
Differentiating between the two terms - under-nutrition and malnutrition - Dr Archana says, "Under nutrition implies that the kid is not getting enough calories; malnutrition, on the other hand, is when a kid is consuming a lot of calories, but no vitamins, minerals and proteins."
Giving a solution to the problem, Archana elaborates, "Innovative cooking is the key. For instance, if a kid likes to have samosas, make them at home with a healthy, veggie stuffing, and serve them with mint chutney, to initiate immediate digestion."
