Irked at having to wait long to withdraw money, a group of people vandalised the SBI Manipur University branch, injuring policeman Shyama Singh in the process. Singh sustained minor injuries.
In another incident, window panes were smashed and the name plate of the SBI branch at Leimakhong in Imphal West district was uprooted by aggrieved customers, police added.
Nationwide protests by opposition parties were carried out in parts of the country, including the national capital, with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee vowing to evict Prime Minister Narendra Modi from politics.
President TN Haokip of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee said demonetisation had severely affected the people and put daily wage earners in immense hardship due to lack of banknotes.
