Three more killed in rain-related incidents in Karnataka, death count above 70
In more house collapse and flooding incidents, three more lives have been claimed by the heavy and constant rain in the Karnataka coast, news agency PTI reported.
Police in Karnataka's Chikamagaluru said Wednesday that three more people had died after heavy rain in the southern state's coastal regions, news agency PTI reported. The three deaths take the total number of deaths (in rain-related incidents from June 1) to over 70.
The three who died in Chikamagalur did so in two separate incidents over the last 24 hours. The deceased included two women from the same family, who were killed after their house collapsed Tuesday night.
The house collapsed because an uprooted tree fell on top of it. The incident occurred in Thagalur village in Mudigere Taluk.
A police officer in Chikamagalur was quoted as saying by PTI that the sub-inspector, along with some policemen, went to the house. “One woman died instantaneously, while the other succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. The district authorities are working on giving relief amount at the earliest,” he said.

There were two children also present in the house, but escaped death miraculously, according to police.
In the second incident which happened in Gadag, in Narasimharajapura Taluk, a 50-year-old man was trying to cross a big stream at Sathkoli in his car, but was was swept away by the heavy current.
Many water bodies, reservoirs, dams and rivers in Karnataka are swollen from the downpours, which has led to flood-like situations in several districts. Amid this, there are also a number of house collapses being reported.
In a tragic incident on Sunday, two children were killed in Solur village near Ramanagaram after a wall collapsed on them.
