Ludhiana: School van collides with car, 12 children injured

Three of the kids are in serious condition; van’s driver, who had fled the accident spot after the accident has been booked for rash driving

Twelve students of Guru Teg Bahadur Senior Secondary School, Doraha, were injured after their school van collided with a car on Monday morning.

While six children were sent home after being given first aid, the others are admitted to different hospital, of which three of them are said to be serious.

Those who were hurt are Divya, 4; Arvind, 9; Ramandeep Kaur, 17; Muskan, 9, Navdeep Singh, 5, and Pavneet Kaur, 17.

Officials said the condition of Divya, Pavneet and Arvind is serious and they are undergoing treatment at Satguru Partap Singh Hospital, Ludhiana. Muskan, Ramandeep Kaur and Navdeep have been admitted to Rajwant Hospital, Doraha,

Doraha police have lodged an FIR for rash driving against the driver of the van identified as Abhishek Masih of Kaddon village.

The case was registered based on the complaint of one Varun Dawra of Muktsar Sahib, who was driving the car the van collided with and is a civil engineer.

He alleged that Masih was driving recklessly.

Locals said that passer-bys rushed the children to the hospital and informed the police. The van driver escaped from the spot after accident.

ASI Harjinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said the children also confirmed that Masih was driving recklessly. A case has been lodged under Sections 279, 337, 338 and 427 of Indian Penal Code at Doraha police station. As per officials, the van was overloaded.

Muskan said Masih was driving very fast and they had asked him to slow down, but he didn’t listen.

The childrens’ parents said the van did not have a fixed driver.
