Haryana assembly polls: 85 candidates in fray for 4 seats in Gurugram district

Gurgaon, Badshahpur, Sohna and Pataudi assembly constituencies fall in Gurugram district. The list of the candidates will be scrutinized on October 5 and the last day for withdrawing nominations is October 7.

On Friday, the last day of filing nominations for Haryana assembly elections, 58 candidates filed their nominations in the four assembly segments of Gurugram district, taking the total number to 85, according to the district election office.

The state will go to polls on October 21 and results will be announced on October 24.

In Gurgaon constituency, 27 candidates are in the fray, after 19 nominations were filed on the last day. None of the major political parties has given a ticket to a woman candidate.

From Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manish Yadav filed the nomination for the Badshahpur seat, while Sudhir Singla filed his nomination from Gurgaon. A large meeting of workers was organised by Yadav in Sector 10, attended by Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh, senior BJP functionaries, village leaders and a large number of supporters from Badshahpur. “I thank the party for showing faith in me and assure the people of hard work in the next five years,” he said.

Rao Narbir Singh is the sitting MLA from the segment, but Yadav has been given the ticket this time.

Singla addressed a large gathering of workers at the Old Judicial complex in the morning and his supporters also organised a roadshow, for which BJP MP Sanjay Bhatia and senior party functionaries were present. Bhatia asked the BJP workers to forget their differences and put up a united stand in the polls. He has been given the ticket in place of sitting MLA Umesh Agarwal.

From the Congress, Sukhbir Kataria, who was a state minister during the Congress government in 2009-2014, filed his nomination from Gurgaon, in the presence of a huge crowd of supporters and senior Congress leader, Sunil Jakhar, from Punjab. Kataria said that people of Gurgaon are facing a lot of difficulties due to lack of development and poor infrastructure. “We will reach out to people at their doorstep and assure them that only Congress can solve their problems,” said Kataria.

Rao Kamalbir Singh, who has got the Congress’ mandate from Badshahpur, also carried out a public rally before filing his nomination. “We have opened a war room to carry out the campaign. Zone-wise offices are also being opened to take the battle to the BJP,” he said.

He has been given the ticket, being preferred to party veteran, Rao Dharmpal.

Other candidates who filed the nomination from Gurgaon included Brahm Prakash of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Sube Singh Bohra of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), Tarvinder Saini of the Loktantra Suraksha Party (LSP), Narender Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

The independents included Anita Agarwal, wife of BJP rebel Umesh Agarwal, Congress rebel leader Gaje Singh Kablana, Pramila Devi, Ashwani Sharma, who is an MCG councillor, Seema Pahuja also an MCG councillor, Abhinav Vashisht, Govind Naryan Khem, Kuldeep Singh Singh Bohra, Vikas and Dinesh Kumar.

In Badshahpur, the candidates who filed nominations on Friday include Maman Yadav of Swaraj India, Chanderpal of BSC party, Rishiraj Rana of the JJP, Sonu Thakran of the INLD and Rajesh of Janta party. Nineteen candidates are in the fray from Badshahpur, as per the district election office.

In Sohna, the candidates who filed their nomination on the final day included Dr Shamsudin of the Congress, Rohtash of the INLD, Dayaram of the LSP, Rohtash Singh of the JJP and Narender Kumar of the AAP. As many as 18 candidates are in the fray from this constituency.

In Pataudi, Sudhir Chaudhary of the Congress, Pankaj Kumar of the INLD and Rajender of the LSP filed their nominations, taking the total to 21 candidates, including nine independents.
