On the basis of a complaint filed by suspect’s elder brother Ajay, a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at New Colony police station on Tuesday, police said.

In his complaint, Ajay said that he had gone to his in-laws’ place at Punhana in Mewat, when he received a call from a neighbour that his brother Neeraj attacked their father and he was severely injured. “When I returned home, I found my father lying in a pool of blood with deep injuries in the neck,” he said.

The complainant also said that the suspect was addicted to drugs and gambling, and regularly demanded money to fuel his habits.

Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said that the suspect revealed during questioning that he used to taking drugs and had asked for money from his father. “However, when the victim refused to give him money, he stabbed him with a pair of scissors,” he said.

Rajesh Kumar, station house officer of New Colony police station, said, “Based on technical surveillance, the suspect was arrested from Khandsa Mandi on Wednesday.”

Police also said the suspect was unmarried and he lived with his father and brother’s family in the same house. “The weapon used in the crime has also been recovered,” said Sangwan.
