Like “Bharat Chhodo”, new slogan “BJP Bhagao” is coming from the neighbouring state, says Samajwadi Party chief

Terming the latest developments in Bihar a “good start”, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday claimed that other political parties and people in different states will also stand against the saffron camp.

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar severed ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and geared up to renew alliance with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Drawing an analogy between snapping of BJP-JD (U) ties with Quit India Movement which was started on August 8, 1942, the SP chief said a similar slogan against the BJP was now coming from Bihar.

“It’s a good start. On this day, the slogan of ‘Angrezo Bharat Chhodo’ was given and today the slogan of ‘BJP Bhagao’ is coming from Bihar. I think soon political parties and people in different states will stand against the BJP,” Akhilesh said while talking to reporters in Kannauj on the sidelines of an SP event on August Kranti Diwas in Jhauva village of Kannauj from where Akhilesh launched his party’s Tricolour on every house campaign from August 9 to August 15.

At the Kannuaj event, Akhilesh among other things said: “The freedom fighters had given the slogan ‘Britishers, Quit India” and today on its anniversary, I also give a slogan ‘BJP, Quit UP’.” Accusing the BJP of undermining the country’s democratic institutions and the Constitution, he said if the BJP grew more powerful, people might lose their right to vote.

“BJP took the votes of backward castes and Dalits but did not give them their due. Your employment is also being taken away and the Constitution is also being attacked. If these people become more powerful, you may also lose your right to vote. You should not take this as a joke...Vote for us in 2024 (Lok Sabha polls) and also in 2027 (UP assembly polls),” Yadav said to the gathering.

“Look around India, there are some countries where no voting takes place and the government is permanent there. In some places, the army is running the country’s democracy. Is there an election in the neighbouring country of China? If you go above, are there any elections in Russia? In Pakistan, the army rules the roost and installs whoever they want in the power. Are there any elections in Myanmar and its surrounding countries? So be careful,” he said.

Terming the present regime at the Centre as the government of industrialists, the SP chief said the East India Company had come to India to do business but later the British passed such a law that this company became the government.

“Today the properties of India are being sold by the BJP people and they have given the whole country to the industrialists. If these people stay for a few more days, you and we will be made slaves,” Yadav alleged.

Taking a jibe at the BJP’s “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, the former CM also targeted the RSS and said, “Today they want tricolour at every home. If you go through history, these are the same people who once opposed the tricolour and now want to reach you. You know the parent party of the BJP. It does not hoist the national flag.”

Meanwhile, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Bihar governor Phagu Chauhan earlier in the day and staked claim to form a new government with the support of 160 MLAs, hours after holding a meeting with the Janata Dal (United) leaders. After submitting his resignation, Kumar said the decision to sever ties with NDA was taken by the JD(U). “All MPs and MLAs reached a consensus that we should leave the NDA. Soon after, I resigned as Bihar CM,” Kumar told reporters in Patna.

‘Soon police, PAC will also be outsourced’

Referring to the Agnipath scheme of recruitment in the armed forces, the SP chief said, “Now, there is a temporary system in the army, after a few days there will be a temporary system in police and PAC too. After a few days, they will also be outsourced. In other government jobs, outsourcing is already there.”

‘Our contractors bought Bolero, theirs aeroplanes’

Attacking the BJP government over the Bundelkhand expressway, Yadav said it got damaged in the first rain. “When our contractors used to get works, they purchased Bolero and Scorpio but BJP contractors, who made this road, have taken aeroplanes. This is the difference. Our Baba CM could not copy us as copying also needs ‘akal’ (mind),” he said.
