Lucknow Centennial school episode: AD basic edu suspended for laxity
A private body took possession of the school and the students of the Centennial School in U.P. capital had to attend their class outside the school gate last month
Divisional assistant director (AD), basic education, Lucknow, Mukesh Kumar Singh has been suspended for his alleged involvement in the Centennial secondary school episode wherein a private body took possession of the school and the students of the Centennial School here had to attend their class outside the school gate last month.
Additional chief secretary, secondary education, U.P., Aradhana Shukla in her order dated August 8, 2022, said Singh, the then district inspector of school, Lucknow, did not take effective action after investigating the fake committee formed by private individuals by violating the rules and not sending the proposal before the divisional committee.
Singh is third officer to have been suspended in connection with the Centennial school incident. Earlier on July 14, PN Singh, the then divisional assistant director, basic education, Lucknow division, and Vijay Pratap Singh, district basic education officer, Lucknow, were suspended for fraudulently giving affiliation to Methodist Church, a private school, in place of the 139-year-old government-aided Centennial Secondary School.
In her order, Shukla said, “This is gross negligence towards official responsibilities. In view of this, he was prima facie found guilty for indifference, laxity and irresponsible act in government works, under Rule-4 of the Uttar Pradesh Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1999. Hence Singh has been suspended with immediate effect.” During the suspension period, Mukesh Kumar Singh will remain attached to the directorate of education, Uttar Pradesh.
