Power theft detected in Lucknow corporator’s house
The corporator was running four ACs with the help of a ‘katia ‘ connection in his house in Faizullahganj, found a LESA team
Lucknow A corporator was caught stealing power for his house in Faizullahganj ward on Saturday. A Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) team accompanied by vigilance sleuths found four ACs running in the house with the help of ‘katia’ connections.
“Public representatives are supposed to set an example with their behaviour but what if they are caught doing wrong things like stealing power and operating as many as 4 ACs through a ‘katia’ connection?” said AK Kannaujjia, executive engineer of Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration, who was present when the LESA squad caught the power theft.
He said, “LESA and vigilance teams caught six-kilowatt load electricity theft in the house of Faizullahganj corporator Jaglal Yadav on Saturday.”
The team was surprised to see four ACs running, bypassing the meter on a connection of two kilowatts. The department has registered a case against the corporator. The surprise check for detecting power theft in the area was undertaken by a team of LESA led by Ajay Kumar Kannaujia , executive engineer of Sitapur Road division.
The corporator initially tried to intimidate the LESA team, threatening them by flaunting his contacts but due to sleuths of the vigilance team he was not able to create any problem.
Power theft was also caught in the houses of Kapil Kumar, Jayshree Shukla, Salim and Vidyavati in the same locality.
When asked about the issue, Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia said, “I don’t know the exact case so I will not comment on it but once I get details from the corporator, then I will speak on the issue. Corporators should try and support the administration in checking power theft.”
Senior corporator of Sardar Patel and Ramji Lal Nagar wards Girish Mishra said, “ I don’t know what happened there but corporators should keep themselves away from controversies.”
