Police find Thai national’s passport, visa hours after he left them in auto

A Thailand national got back his passport and visa, which he had left in an autorickshaw at Goregaon East, within four hours.

According to police, Deepak Baldava, 45, was in Mumbai on a business trip on Sunday. After meeting relatives and attending a function he was to fly to the Netherlands in the evening.

Around 11 am, Baldava left his relative’s house in Goregaon West and took an autorickshaw to Oberoi Mall where his friend was to pick him up and take him to a function.

“Baldava had a big bag with his clothes. There was also a small bag which contained his laptop, passport, visa for the Netherlands, and his debit and credit cards, along with ₹10,000 in cash,” police inspector Chandrakant Gharge of Dindoshi police station said.

After getting off the auto, Baldava removed his big bag and put it in his friend’s car, but forgot the small one. Ten minutes later, when he realised his mistake, he approached Dindoshi police station.

Gharge said they received the complaint around 11.30 am, and they immediately took Baldava to the spot from where he had boarded the auto and the place where he had alighted from it.

Police then scanned the CCTV footage from Goregaon to Bandra and within four hours, tracked the rickshaw at Juhu. “We found Baldava’s bag behind the passenger seat. The contents of the bag were accounted for,” Gharge said.
