An IT engineer from Pimpri-Chinchwad was duped of ₹91,000 by a man under false promises of marriage
An IT engineer from Pimpri-Chinchwad was duped of ₹91,000 by a man under false promises of marriage. The 28-year-old complainant woman met the man through a matrimonial platform.
The two decided to get married after which the man claimed that he needed money for his mother’s medical treatment. The woman transferred ₹91,000 to an account of a nationalised bank in Udupi region of Karnataka. However, the woman later learned that the man had given her a false name.
After the woman confronted him about the false name, they had a fight and cancelled their wedding. After the fight he started avoiding her demands for return of her money which is when she lodged a police complaint. The transaction happened in the last week of November.
“They matched on November 24, and the man asked for money on November 26. The fight happened soon after. The man seems to be in another state. We are investigating the case,” said Police sub-inspector Vijay Bhongle of Sangvi police station who registered the case.
A case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating) of the Indian penal code along with section 60 (C) of the Information technology act, 2000 at Sangvi police station.
