MP Bhosale also stated that the Maharashtra Governor had previously made “objectionable remarks” about social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule too.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has drafted a letter demanding the removal of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. The Rajya Sabha representative has marked President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others, slamming the under-fire governor.

The backlash from the Satara-based leader comes on the backdrop of Koshyari’s recent utterances related to the Maratha warrior king.

“The statements made by the governor are very contradictory to the beliefs of the nation. It would only be appropriate if you could take measures to remove Hon. Governor of Maharashtra. Your actions and deliberations in resolving this current standoff would go miles in restoring the confidence of the people of Maharashtra and the nation, that you stand in solidarity with the people’s belief and faith in Chh. Shivaji Maharaj. Thanking you,” stated the letter.

MP Bhonsle also stated that the Maharashtra Governor had previously made “objectionable remarks” about social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule too.

Earlier on Saturday, Koshyari’s remarks sparked controversy when he said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a hero of the past era and that the state may turn to personalities such as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari as its present heroes. The comments triggered a huge controversy with Maratha organisations and opposition leaders demanding that the centre recall the governor.

The BJP MP also questioned the silence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari during the programme when Koshyari made remarks last week. “Gadkari and Pawar should have objected to Koshyari’s remarks then and there during the event in Aurangabad on November 20,” said Bhosale during the press conference in Pune on Thursday.
