The parliamentary constituency of Jalpaiguri, once a bastion of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), is now under the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
Reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha seat was won by Trinamool Congress’ Bijoy Chandra Barman in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Bijoy Chandra Barman had defeated the sitting member of Parliament Mahendra Kumar Roy of the CPI(M).

Trinamool’s Barman will contest the Lok Sabha election 2019.
Jalpaiguri, one of the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal, will vote during the second of the seven-phased election on April 18. The results will be declared on May 23.
