Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Will BJP retain Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur seat?

Polling in Jharkhand will be held in four phases from April 29 to May 19. Votes will be counted on May 23.

The Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat, one of the 14 parliamentary constituencies in Jharkhand, covers the East Singhbhum district.

Bahragora, Ghatsila, Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West are the assembly segments which come under the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat.

Jamshedpur has voted only three candidates twice to Parliament in its 62-years long parliamentary electoral history – Rudra Pratap Sarangi (Janata Party) in 1977 and 1980, Shailendra Mahato (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) in 1989 and 1991 and his wife Abha Mahato (Bharatiya Janata Party) in 1998 and 1999.

The seat has also elected candidates whose party or alliance formed the government at the Centre as many as 13 times in the past 62 years. There were only four times when the winning candidates from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat failed to see their party or alliance at the Centre.

Polling in Jharkhand will be held in four phases from April 29 to May 19. Votes will be counted on May 23.
