Australia vs England, semi-final World Cup 2019: Alex Carey left with a bloody chin by Jofra Archer bouncer - Watch

Australia wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey on Thursday received medical treatment immediately after blood streamed down his chin during the second semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2019 against England at Edgbaston after being hit by a rising delivery bowled by England paceman Jofra Archer. On the last ball of the eighth over, Archer struck Carey with the short ball. The helmet came off as Carey looked away and ducked but his chin area started bleeding.

Carey received treatment on the field and continued batting. He showed great courage to stay in the middle and stitched together an important partnership of 103 runs with Steve Smith, which allowed the defending champions to put on a score in excess of 200 runs. 

The left handed batsman contributed 46 runs off 70 deliveries with the help of 4 boundaries and his stand with Smith threatened to take the early advantage away from the hosts. Carey though was sent back by leg spinner Adil Rashid. The winner of the second semi-final will meet New Zealand in the World Cup final at Lord’s on July 14.
