It's time again for some young cricketers, selected for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar annual scholarship programme, to head to Brisbane.
Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Tamil Nadu opening batsman Abhinav Mukund and Maharashtra left-arm medium pacer Jitendra Patil are the three players who have been selected for the scholarship.
Talking to the Hindustan Times before leaving for Brisbane, Bhuvneshwar expressed delight at being chosen for the scholarship. "I am very lucky to be chosen for this scholarship. I am looking forward to improving my bowling skills there," he added.
Bhuvneshwar, who had an exceptionally good Ranji season, is the only bowlers to have dismissed Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in a Ranji match and picked up five wickets in the first inning of the final against Mumbai.
"That was like a fairytale. I will never forget that day," he said.
While, Mukund has 856 runs in Ranji including four centuries and an unbeaten 300, Patil is yet to play first-class cricket.
