Ireland are suddenly in the news for wrong reasons after impressing with their onfield showing. Close on the heels of Niall O’ Brien losing his bats, reports suggest that the batsman struck the dressing room door after being run out in the game against India, and unhinging it.
While Irish media manager Barry Chambers played it down saying “It’s nobody’s fault”, it has emerged that Cricket Ireland have sent £310 (Rs 23,000 approx) to cover the damage to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). “I think they have paid up the damages,” said KSCA secretary Javagal Srinath.
The Ireland management also refuted the story in sections of the media that suggested Niall cooked up the missing-bats story after he was told that he would be reported to the ICC. “We reported the matter to the police to enable him to claim insurance.
“Without the FIR number, the insurance company wouldn’t have entertained his claim,” said Chambers.
