The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting President CK Khanna has said the India vs New Zealand Kanpur ODI next month could be the last time the Green Park hosts an international match as the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow is far better.

It’s confirmed that Kanpur’s Green Park, and not the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, will host the India-New Zealand one-day game on October 29 with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) giving its go ahead. (India vs Australia, 4th ODI, Highlights)

Last week, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri had made an announcement, but there was still confusion over the third ODI with the BCCI website saying the match venue was TBC (To be confirmed).

“Probably, this would be for the last time that the Green Park hosts an international match as the Lucknow stadium is far superior, and one of the best stadiums in the country,” Khanna told Hindustan Times on the sidelines of the Duleep Trophy final on Thursday.

“This stadium requires at least two more months to finish, and after conducting the Indian Premier League matches next season, this venue would be the best-ever in the state to host international matches,” said Khanna.

The International Cricket Council had inspected the Ekana Stadium some time back. “A few IPL teams have approached the authorities here, and it would be good for the venue to gear up for big matches (ODIs and Tests) in future,” said Khanna.
