22: 03 hrs: The first T20I was abandoned due to rain. The rains started out after the toss and continued for some good minutes. Even though the outfield dried out, the pitch suffered. There were visible damp spots on the pitch which did not dry out even after a lot of efforts from the ground staff.

21: 58 hrs: Match abandoned as No Result

21:18 hrs: There will be another inspection at 21:30 local time. The cut-off for a five-over game in 21:46 hrs.

21:12 hrs: The hair dryer and a steam iron is being used to get the pitch ready at this point. The groundstaff is trying their best but it may not be enough. Only time will tell.

20:10 hrs: Pitch inspection has been pushed to 9 pm. This will likely be a truncated fixture.

19:58 hrs: The rain has stopped but some parts of the ground are still wet. India skipper Virat Kohli is out in the middle and he joins the umpires in the inspection.

19:22 hrs: The supersopper is doing its job at one part of the ground. However, the drizzle is still on and this is complicating matters.

19:15 hrs: The intensity of rain has reduced a bit. However, the drainage is not great in Guwahati and it will take some time for them to resume.

18:59 hrs: Not a good news for Indian fans -

18:52 hrs: Main square still covered but those on the sides being removed now.

18:44 hrs: Sri Lanka (Playing XI) - Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera(w), Oshada Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Lasith Malinga(c)

18:38 hrs: India (Playing XI) - Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli(c), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(w), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, Jasprit Bumrah

18:31 hrs: India have won the toss and they will be fielding first. A good toss to win for Virat Kohli & Co considering the dew factor in Guwahati. India going with three pacers and Kuldeep Yadav being the sole specialist spinner.

18:27 hrs: Pitch Report - “There are plenty of cracks. This is not a pretty-looking pitch. I don’t think batsmen will have it that easy. Yes, there will be runs as it’s T20 but there will be help for spinners. It is a bit tacky. Captains will want to chase because he doesn’t want dew to affect his bowlers. Also, he wants to know the target.”

18:20 hrs: Shikhar Dhawan returns to international duty after injury and will open with KL Rahul. With run machine Rohit Sharma rested, Kohli will not have to deal the problem of which opener to omit. Till his injury in November, Dhawan got starts but hasn’t scored a half-century since November 2018. Also back from injury is Jasprit Bumrah and that, Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga said, is never an easy thing to do for a bowler. “Most struggle to get into rhythm for the first few matches. We want to get that advantage,” he said of his Mumbai Indians’ teammate.

18:13 hrs: It rained at the start of this week but the weather cleared out as we approached the match. It was largely sunny as both India and Sri Lanka sweated out in their practice sessions on Saturday. But as far as the weather forecast of Sunday is concerned, it is gloomy to say the least.

18:00 hrs: Toss in 30 minutes. There was a bit of rain in the day, but the weather appears to be clear right now.

Kohli spoke after head coach Ravi Shastri’s voice rang out at the empty ACA Stadium in Barsapara between whose stands you can peek at the brow of a hill. “From a very young age, we are always focused on what we did as individuals. Even when we came back from a game, we were invariably asked ‘what did you do’ rather than ‘did the team win?’” said Kohli, when asked about the team talk. - READ MORE
