India W vs England W: India advanced to the final of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time after heavy rains washed out the semi-final against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday. It had been raining since Thursday morning and it showed no sings of slowing down as the umpires and the match referee decided to call off play around 10:44 IST. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s cricket team have advanced to the final because of their higher standing at the end of the group stages. 10:56 hrs: “It is unfortunate not to get a game due to the weather. But that’s how the rules go. In future, it would be nice to have a reserve day. From day one, we knew that we have to win all the games because if in case we don’t get any play in the semi-finals, it will be hard for us. Credit to the team, we wanted to win all the games and we did it,” said India captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

10:54 hrs: “Frustrating, didn’t want the World Cup to end this way but not much you can do about this. Would have been good to have a reserve day perhaps. That loss to South Africa cost us. Not really, we expected to reach the semi-finals and that we did. Undone by the weather. Did feel like we had started to gain momentum in recent games and we were really ready for this semifinal. Yes, Sarah Glenn and Sophie (Ecclestone) have been great. So has been Mady. Not starting a tournament great has been a concern, so perhaps we can work on that (smiles),” said England captain Heather Knight.

10:51 hrs: India will play their first final at ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Their opponent will in all probability be South Africa as the second semi-final between them and Australia is also slated to take place at SCG, where it is still raining.

10:44 hrs: MATCH CALLED OFF. India advance to the final of the T20 World Cup for the first time in the history of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

10:19 hrs: Still raining - England’s hopes are slowly but surely washing away with the rains at the SCG. All they can do is wait but time is running out for them.

10:04 hrs: Why India will go through in case of a washout? There are no reserve days for the semi-final clashes in the Women’s T20 World Cup and it was pre-decided that the team with a better position at the end of group stages will advance to the final in case of a washout. India, by virtue of winning all of their group stage encounters, finished on top of Group A while England finished at No.2 in Group B and hence the Harmanpreet Kaur-led will automatically go throught to the finals at Melbourne on Sydney.

9:58 hrs: The current pictures at the SCG

9:53 hrs: 10-overs a side needed: As per the new ICC rules, 10-overs a side is a minimum to complete a full international T20 game. In a normal T20I, the 5-overs a side rule still stands but in ICC tournaments it has been changed to 10-overs minimum. And for that too happen in this IND W vs ENG W semi-final, the latest the toss can place is 11:06 IST and the game should start by 11:21 IST.

9:44 hrs: Doubts over the second semi final too - FYI, the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa is also slated to place at the SCG later today, meaning there is considerable amount of doubt over that encounter too. In case of a washout in India vs England and Australia vs South Africa matches, then India and South Africa will advance to the final to be played at the MCG on Sunday. let’s hope that is not the case and the rain makes way for some cricket.

9:25 hrs: It’s still pouring down - Chances of a game look bleak. We still have around 2 hours till the final cut-off time but as of now it doesn’t look that good at the SCG. If it’s a washout then India go through to the final based on their superior record in the group stage.

9:03 hrs: Toss has been delayed - The toss in the semi-final clash between India and England in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup has been delayed due to rain here at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

8:59 hrs: Advantage India if the match does not happen in Sydney. They have topped the table and will make it to the final if we see no play today.

8:56 hrs: It is absolutely pelting down in Sydney -

8:00 hrs: India, a side which has remained unbeaten, will lock horns with England for a spot in the final of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Both sides have been good in the tournament so far and it promises to be a closely-fought contest.
