The highest match aggregate was 539-16 in 99.5 overs, Aus (270-6) vs Ind (269) at Madras on October 9. The lowest aggregate was 271-12 in 72.1 overs, Zim (135) v Ind (136-2) at Bombay on October 17.

For the first time, three, batsmen — Graham Gooch (471), David Boon (447), and Geoff Marsh (428) — scored over 400 runs in a single World Cup, reflecting the transition from England to the batting heavens of the subcontinent.
