Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli was at his animated best when Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sunil Narine tried to ‘Mankad’ him during an Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter between the two teams at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday.
This law became famous as the ‘Mankad’ rule during India’s maiden tour to Australia in 1947 when Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad twice dismissed Bill Brown by removing the bails when he was outside the crease. The Australian Press slammed Mankad and that is how the name for the dismissal became famous.

On the last ball of the 18th over of the RCB innings, Narine stopped mid-way after completing his run-up but he didn’t let go of the ball. Kohli, who was at the non-striker’s end, had his bat inside the crease all along but got down on his knees to show the umpires his bat was inside the crease.
Kohli’s reaction prompted smiles from both Narine and the umpire. The video of the same was uploaded on social by the official handle of Indian Premier League and their post read: “Mankading me? NO, says Virat”.
In the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs to win their second match of the season. Indian captain Virat Kohli stepped up his World Cup preparations with a brilliant century for RCB.
