Rahul fails to fire again

The decision to bring Glenn Maxwell into the attack as paid dividends for the hosts as he gets rid of KL Rahul. The right hander tried to take the attack to Maxwell but skies the ball and Coulter-Nile take a good catch at long-off.

16:12 hrs IST

India cross 100

Kohli and Rahul have put on 35 runs of 31 deliveries as India go past the 100-run mark in 12 overs. Following the dismissals of Dhawan and Rohit, the two right handers have done well to soak in the pressure and score runs at a good pace.

16:05 hrs IST

First boundary of the innings for Kohli

Skiper Virat Kohli had been dealing in singles and doubles uptill then and now, hits the ball throught he point region for his first four of the innings. Kohli and Rahul are building a good partnership here.

16:00 hrs IST

KL Rahul makes his intentions clear

Coulter-Nile bowls a short delivery and Kl Rahul pulls it for a six over the mid wicket fielder’s head. The stage is set for Rahul to bring his A game forward and win the match for India after few uncharacteristic performances.

15:54 hrs IST

Rohit Sharma falls, India in trouble now

Adam Zampa has done the trick again for the Aussies as he gets rid of the danger-man Rohit Sharma. The right hander misses the line of the delivery and it crashes into his stumps after taking an inside edge. Rohit falls for 23 as India lose their second wicket.

15:48 hrs IST

Dhawan departs courtesy of DRS

After a blazing innings, Shikhar Dhawan heads back into the hut after getting dismissed by Mithcell Starc. A full delivery from Starc crashed into Dhawan’s pads but the umpire said not out. Finch called for the DRS to come into play and replays showed that the ball was hitting the leg-stump. Australia get their first wicket of the day.

15:42 hrs IST

SIX, SIX, Four and Four; India cross 50

This is astonishing batting from the India openers as both Rohit and Dhawan are making the ball cross the boundary rope with ease. Rohit hit a six down the ground off Stoinins and then, Dhawan bludgeoned a six and two fours to power India past the 50-run mark in no time. 22 runs came from that over from Stoinis.

15:36 hrs IST

SIX , SIX and Four

After hitting boundaries, Rohit and Dhawan are now hitting sixes for fun. Coulter-Nile bowls short to Rohit and the right-hander pulls the ball for a huge six over square leg. Then, he bowls a short delivery to Dhawan and the southpaw pulls it for a six over mid-wicket. To make matters worse for Australia, Dhawan hits the last ball of the over through the covers for a boundary. 20 runs came from the over.

15:31 hrs IST

Expensive over from Starc

Starc concedes eight runs from his second over of the day and there was a boundary in there as well. Dhawan gave himself room and hit the ball through the covers to bring up his second four of the innings.

15:27 hrs IST

Four and Four

Nathan Coulter-Nile bowls a couple of bad deliveries in the second over and gets punished by both Rohit and Dhawan. On the first ball of the over, Rohit flicks the ball towards square leg for a boundary and then Dhawan does the same on the last ball of the over.

15:22 hrs IST

Excellent first over from Starc

Ominous signs for India early on as pacer Mitchell Starc bowls an outstanding first over to begin the proceedings. The left-arm pacer gives away just three runs and also kept the two hard-hitting Indian batsmen on the edge.

15:17 hrs IST

Chase begins

Mithcell Starc has the new ball in his hands and he will bowl the first over of the innings. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have taken their positions at striker and non-striker end respectively.

15:10 hrs IST

Openers will look for a steady start

In the chase, India openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will for a good start against the Aussie bowler. Mitchell Starc will pose the biggest threat to the visitors and the openers will have to negate his bowling early on.

14:55 hrs IST

Aussies finish well

Having lost the plot in the middle overs after a good start, Aussies finish well on 164/6 from their 20 overs. Stoinis and Coulter-Nile have done well here to ensure that Bumrah doesn’t get in a tight over here. This will give the Australia bowlers the opportunity to attack from the word go as the Indians will need over 8 runs per over here.

14:44 hrs IST

Bumrah gets Lynn with a direct hit

Not how Australia would have wanted Lynn to walk back to the pavilion. With the business end on, Bumrah catches Lynn short of the crease with a direct hit. Lynn is caught in the middle of nowhere. The Indians are celebrating as the Aussies are losing the plot in the death overs.

14:35 hrs IST

KP does it again for India. Picks his fourth.

Pandya is on a roll here as he now gets Carey. Sweeps the bowler straight to Virat Kohli at the mid-wicket fence. The skipper will not miss these. The score reads 119/5 in the 16th over as the Australians are slowly starting to lose the plot a bit here. Will need wickets to finish with a flourish at the death.

14:23 hrs IST

Maxi goes back trying to slog

Typical Maxwell dismissal as Pandya picks his third wicket here. Tries to slog the spinner into the long-on stands, finds Rohit at the boundary. Rohit will not miss another one tonight. Maxwell goes for 13 off 16 balls as the score reads 90/4 in the 14th over.

14:18 hrs IST

Khaleel back into the attack

With Carey and Maxwell at the crease and yet to settle down, Kohli turns to Khaleel to bring some change, but the bowlers is unlucky as Aussies pick up 6 runs from the over, including a top-edged pull to the third-man boundary. Maxwell was surely lucky there as the Australians are now looking to finish well.

14:08 hrs IST

Krunal strikes again

That is two in a row for Krunal Pandya as he now gets McDermott for a duck. Playing a sweep against the spin off the very first ball is not always the good idea and the batsman finds out. Should have been a little more cautious to start with. A brilliant over from Krunal. Australia have lost the plot slightly here.

14:04 hrs IST

Krunal gets Short

Second time lucky for Pandya here as after Rohit dropped Finch of his bowling, Pandya now gets Short plumb in front. Short goes for the DRS, but there was no way that it was going to be NOT OUT. A review lost and Short goes for 33 off 29 balls.

14:00 hrs IST

Kuldeep gets Finch

Finch does not make much of the chance he gets as he tries another sweep and gets the top-edge. Krunal Pandya does not make mistakes with these. The Indian players are super excited here as Finch was looking very dangerous here. Finch goes for 28 off 23 balls.

13:54 hrs IST

Finch gets a life

Dropped on 22, the Australia skipper cannot believe his luck as Krunal Pandya will be cursing himself as Rohit Sharma drops a sitter here. Yes, it was high in the air, but Rohit should have taken that one. At this level, you cannot miss these chances. The Australians have luck going their way here.

13:50 hrs IST

Australia ends the powerplay on a high

A good over is turned into a mediocre one by Short as he hits the last ball from the Bumrah over to the point boundary. Just what the doctor ordered for the Aussies as the score reads 49/0 after 6 overs. Quality batting here from both Finch (21) and Short (24) here.

13:43 hrs IST

Aus openers ripping apart Khaleel

A change of end does not help the pacer as Short and Finch pick up two boundaries from the over with Finch ending it in style with a booming drive over the head of the mid-off fielder. Khaleel needs to look into the line he is looking to bowl on a wicket that is helping the batsmen. The score reads 41/0 after 5 overs as the Aussies have started really well.

13:40 hrs IST

Bumrah into the attack

With Khaleel giving away quite a few runs in his first over, Kohli brings in Bumrah from his end. While Short starts with a boundary off Bumrah, the pacer comes back and finishes off very well. This is where Bumrah is miles ahead of the other bowlers. India need to keep things a little tight in the powerplay.

13:30 hrs IST

Poor start from Khaleel

Handed the new ball, Khaleel starts off poorly as Finch digs into him and pulls him to the mid-wicket boundary. The pacer just loses his line after that and a few wides follow. Clearly the Australian batsmen mean business here on the slowish surface which is helping the batsmen.

13:24 hrs IST

Short shows intent

Bhuvneshwar was looking good with the new ball as he was hitting the right areas, but Short starts with a drive past the covers fielder and that shows that Short means business here. The Indian bowlers need to start really well here if they want to put up a good score on the board.

13:15 hrs IST

Rohit closes in on another record

India opener and limited-overs deputy Rohit Sharma will join a list of elite players if he manages to hit a few deliveries out of park in the third and the final match of the T20I series against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday. Rohit is just four sixes away from scoring a century of maximums in the shortest format of the game. So far, the right-hander as hit 96 sixes in 81 innings and is placed third on the list of most number of maximums hit by a batsman in T20Is. If he manages to cross the thee-figure mark, Rohit will become the third cricketer after Windies hotshot Chris Gayle and New Zealand star Martin Guptill to hit a century of sixes. 103 sixes in 52 innings – Chris Gayle (WI); 103 sixes in 73 innings – Martin Guptill (NZ); 96 sixes in 81 innings – Rohit Sharma (IND). Rohit has been one of the most prolific batsmen in the history of T20Is. So far, he has amassed 2214 runs in his career and is only 57 runs away from becoming the highest run-getter in the format. Currently, Guptill holds the top-spot in the list.

13:05 hrs IST

Warner back at the nets

In an interesting development, banned Australia cricketer David Warner was seen practising in the nets at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) ahead of the Test series between Australia and India, starting November 6. Under the watchful eyes of head coach Justin Langer, Warner was seen batting against pacer Pat Cummings during a net session. The video of the same was uploaded on social media by an Australian journalist. Earlier, after reviewing a submission by the players’ union to cut the penalties, Cricket Australia (CA) ruled against the trio of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft and they will have to serve their full bans. CA interim chairman Earl Eddings said the board had “determined that it is not appropriate to make any changes to the sanctions handed down to the three players”.

Ganguly has a message for Pant

He is considered one of the most talented youngsters in the Indian team and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly feels that Rishabh Pant should learn the art of keeping things simple from his skipper Virat Kohli. A rash shot from Pant saw him get dismissed against the run of play in the opening T2OI at the Gabba in Brisbane and Ganguly feels that an exceptional talent like Pant should learn fast on how not to lose his composure. “The Australians should count themselves extremely lucky to have won at Brisbane. India was taking the game away when a poor shot by Rishabh Pant tilted things the hosts’ way. Pant is an exceptional talent and is the future of Indian cricket. His run scoring ability, that too all around the wicket, is remarkable. But one thing he quickly needs to learn from his captain Virat Kohli, who is such a fine example of this concept, is how to keep the game simple. I am sure with time, Pant will learn,” he wrote in his column for the Times of India.

Kohli and boys head to the ground

The third T20I is round the corner and the boys head to the ground for the thriller.

11:40 hrs IST

India’s imperious record under threat

India are unbeaten in T20I engagements since July 2017, when they last lost to West Indies in a one-off game in the Caribbean. They have won 20 out of 27 T20Is since then in different conditions and against varying opposition. In doing so, India are unbeaten in nine consecutive T20I series since August 2017, including a drawn two-match contest against Australia at home (October 2017). They have won seven consecutive T20I series since – the Nidahas Trophy win in the tri-series in Sri Lanka (also including Bangladesh) and beating England away 2-1 in the summer gone past, are the highlights of this unbeaten run.
