Mahendra Singh Dhoni becomes first India wicketkeeper to take 300 ODI catches

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the first India and fourth international wicketkeeper to complete 300 ODI catches, after Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (417), South Africa’s Mark Boucher (402) and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (383).

Mahendra Singh Dhoni Saturday added another feather to his cap in an illustrious career, becoming the first India wicketkeeper to take 300 catches in ODIs. The former skipper reached the landmark when he caught England’s Jos Buttler off Umesh Yadav in the second ODI of the three-match series at Lord’s. (ENG vs IND 2nd ODI LIVE)

In 320 ODIs, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has effected 107 stumpings, the most by any keeper. Dhoni also has 407 dismissals in ODIs, the most by an Indian and fourth overall.(Twitter)

With this, Dhoni became the fourth international keeper to achieve the feat, after Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (417), South Africa’s Mark Boucher (402) and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (383).

During the T20 series against England, which India won 2-1, Dhoni became the first keeper to take 50 catches, as well as five catches in an innings, in the shortest format.

In 320 ODIs, he has effected 107 stumpings, the most by any keeper. Dhoni also has 407 dismissals in ODIs, the most by an Indian and fourth overall.

Dhoni also became the second keeper batsman to complete 10,000 ODI runs. He is also the fourth Indian after Ganguly, Dravid and Tendulkar to reach the landmark.

England crushed India by 86 runs at Lord’s to level the three-match ODI series 1-1.
