Pakistan coming.... no guns near Green Park
The district administration of Kanpur has asked all arms holders residing in the vicinity of the Green Park Stadium to deposit their firearms.
Not willing to take any security risks, the district administration has asked all arms licence holders residing in the vicinity of the Green Park Stadium to deposit their firearms. The move has been initiated keeping in mind the security for the India-Pakistan ODI to be played here on November 11.
"The stadium is surrounded by residential colonies and we do not want any firearms to reach the venue or fall into the hands of unscrupulous elements, who could use the nearby buildings to sabotage the match," said SSP Rajeev Sabharwal.
The city police was highly embarrassed when, during the ODI between the arch rivals in 2005, the son of a senior Kanpur Cricket Association (KCA) official reached the ground with a pistol tucked in his trousers. The cops came to know about the firearm when television cameras spotted him with it.
The city police has identified 22 sensitive points from where mischief could be done. Security personnel would also be deployed on rooftops of buildings.
Meanwhile, 12 high-dome cameras would be installed inside the ground to record any suspicious activity. Sabharwal has also sought additional police force, including 11 ASPs, 24 DSPs, 400 SIs, 350 head constables and 2400 constables, in order to ensure foolproof security.
