Prithvi Shaw, Delhi Daredevils opener, matches Sanju Samson’s IPL record
Prithvi Shaw blasted a half-century to set up Delhi Daredevils’ 55-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, matching an IPL record set by Sanju Samson in 2013
Delhi Daredevils starlet Prithvi Shaw underlined his growing stature in Indian cricket on Friday with a 44-ball 62 that helped set up the side’s comfortable 55-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in the national capital on Friday. (DD vs KKR IPL 2018 HIGHLIGHTS)
Shaw, aged only 18 years and 169 days, hit his maiden half-century in only his second match in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With the knock, he also became the joint-youngest cricketer to register a half-century in the IPL, equalling the feat of another young gun, Sanju Samson. Samson, who plays for Rajasthan Royals, had scored 63 off 41 balls against Royal Challengers Banglore in a 2013 IPL game. He was aged 18 years and 169 days at the time. (DD vs KKR IPL 2018 SCORECARD)
Shaw’s teammate at Daredevils, Rishabh Pant, is behind the duo in the list with his first IPL fifty coming at the age of 18 years and 212 days in 2017.

Shaw is not new to making and breakings records. Earlier this year, he led India to the under-19 cricket World Cup title in Australia, emulating the feats of Mohammad Kaif (2002), Virat Kohli (2008) and Unmukt Chand (2012). He led from the front in the tournament amassing 261 runs with the help of five fifties.
Following his good show in the tournament, he was picked up by Daredevils in the IPL player auction. Though he didn’t feature in the playing XI of the side in the first five matches, he made his debut against Kings XI Punjab on April 23. The Mumbai youngster made an immediate impact with his 10-ball 22 in that game.
