Rohit is a class act: Gilchrist

Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist on Wednesday heaped praise on his deputy Rohit Sharma and said the youngster from Mumbai is a 'class act' and is destined for more glory.

"He has been in great form last year as well and has done pretty well in the Indian one day and Twenty20 teams. He is a class act," Gilchrist said after the team's 24-run win against Bangalore Royal Challengers in Cape Town on Wednesday.

Gilchrist (71 off 45 balls) and Rohit (52 off 30 balls) matched each other shot for shot on Wednesday even though it was the Australia who was adjudged Man of the Match.

"Rohit has taken his vice-captain's role very seriously and wants to be a leader some day and that is exciting," Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist was naturally happy after the team's second straight win but the Australian guarded against complacency and said the team, which had finished last in the first season of the Indian Premier League, needed to maintain its high standard.

"We played really well and it's our second win on the trot. But it's still too early to think about anything else. I'm rally happy that the hard work put in by the boys are paying off," said the left-hander.
