Sachin Tendulkar turns 44: Master Blaster’s 5 records that might never be broken

Sachin Tendulkar turned 44 on Monday. Three years after his retirement, the Master Blaster holds several cricket world records that might never be broken.

Sachin Tendulkar was India’s hope when he held the bat on the cricket field. He bid adieu to his favourite game in 2013 but the country is still revelling in his historic achievements. And on his 44th birthday on Monday, wishes poured in from all quarters.

As India celebrates its favourite hero’s birthday, a look back at Tendulkar’s five greatest records which might never be broken.

1.15921 runs in Tests – Tendulkar’s monumental run tally in the longest format is a testament to the discipline and dedication shown by him on the cricket field. No other player has scored even 13,500 runs in Tests – with the second best being Ricky Ponting (13, 378). Among the current players only Younis Khan has scored above 10,000 runs.

2.18426 runs in ODIs – The cricket great also leads he chart in ODIs too with 18,426 runs. No other player has scored even 15,000 ODI runs, with the second-best being Kumar Sangakkara 14,234 runs. Among the current players, MS Dhoni has the most - 9275 runs.

3. 200 Tests – Tendulkar has also played the most number of Tests. He achieved the feat against West Indies. After him, Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh have played the most number of Tests played – 168. Among the current lot, Alastair Cook has played 140 Tests.

4. 51 centuries in Tests – Tendulkar has the most number of tons in Tests. His career spanned more than two decades and his record might stand forever. After Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis has 45 hundreds. Among the current players, Younis Khan has the most - 34 hundreds.

5. 34357 runs in international career – Tendulkar is also sitting on top of the lot in terms of most runs in international cricket, including Tests and ODIs. After him, Kumar Sangakkara has 28,016 runs. Among the current players, AB De Villiers has the most - 18706 runs.
