Should bowlers stop bowling to you? Bumrah asks Pandya, gets hilarious reply

Both Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya played crucial roles in Mumbai Indians’ Super Over win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday at the Wankhede Stadium.

Hardik Pandya has been a nightmare to the bowlers in IPL 2019. Scoring at a strike rate of 198.95, he has taken the job of finishing matches for Mumbai Indians upon himself. Pandya’s clean striking has left bowlers clueless in the death overs. His teammate and one of the best death bowlers of the world Jasprit Bumrah agreed to the fact it is very difficult to contain Pandya.

In fact, Bumrah’s curiosity grew to such an extent that he went on to ask Pandya on what bowlers should actually do stop him. “You’ve been hitting the ball really well, so where does the bowler bowl to you? Is it best not to bowl to you?” Bumrah asked Pandya after Mumbai India edged past Sunrisers Hyderabad in a thrilling Super Over contest at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

“Maybe! Maybe… I’d like to think that way (laughs) … Everything is coming off nicely. Our environment is really nice so you keep getting the confidence, I really want to thank the MI team management, specially my teammates for always being there and supporting during the tough times,” Bumrah replied while talking to the host broadcasters after their victory.

Both Bumrah and Pandya played crucial roles in the Super Over. While Bumrah executed his plans to perfection to restrict SRH to only 8 runs in the Super Over, Pandya dashed all of SRH’s hopes by hitting Rashid Khan’s first ball of the Super Over for a six over long-off.

“Do you feel the pressure that every time you have to hit big?” Was Bumrah’s next question to Pandya.

“No pressure, the past performances really help… I take a lot of confidence from those knocks,” Pandya replied.

The match had ended in a tie after Hyderabad, chasing 163 for victory, finished their 20 overs on 162 for six, with Manish Pandey remaining unbeaten on 71 off 41 balls.

Earlier, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock stood out for Mumbai with his 69 not out to guide the three-time champions to 162-5 after electing to bat first in the Twenty20 tournament.

Paceman Jasprit Bumrah then returned figures of 2-31 from his four overs and also restricted Hyderabad to just eight runs in the Super Over. He was named man of the match.

Importantly, Mumbai Indians sealed playoff berth with this win and rose to No.2 in the points table.
