AAP to field contestants in all 5 LS seats, Harish Arya gets Almora ticket
Names of the other 4 candidates will be announced on March 9. Party insiders said Arya’s name had been declared earlier as Almora is a reserved seat and the party wanted to empower the downtrodden sections of the society first.
Dehradun: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is riding high on the anti-corruption wave, has decided to field candidates on all the 5 Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand.
The party on Thursday announced the name of Harish Arya as the official candidate for the Almora Lok Sabha seat. The names of 4 more candidates will be announced on March 9.
Party insiders say that Arya’s name has been declared earlier as Almora is a reserved seat and the party wants to empower the downtrodden sections of the society first. The party had earlier sought online applications where each probable candidate had to fill a form and attach the signatures of 100 voters.
But recently many more members have joined the party and they are also among the probable candidates.
The party’s second list is now expected in a few days and there are talks that the announcement might be made on March 9 when Arvind Kejriwal returns back to Delhi from Gujarat. The convener of the poll campaign committee Shamsher Singh Bisht says that the candidature of Harish Arya was announced early as he had been the convenor of India Against Corruption since the past two years and had an unblemished track record.
Meanwhile, the party’s local media incharge, Rajiv Lochan Sah has lambasted the Gujarat government for arresting Kejriwal and the ensuing attack on him at Kharoi (Kutch). Sah has said that there is no restriction on any person in moving to any part of India. The attack shows the true colours of the Gujarat government.
Sah says that Kejriwal had assessed corruption and the various problems that is present in Gujarat, which scared the government. Sah has asked the members of the party to maintain calm and not get agitated over the issue.
