The police will register cases against unidentified men for sexually exploiting inmates of the Nari Niketan (women’s home) at Kedarpuram in Dehradun, said Dehradun senior superintendent of police Sadanand Date.
“We have verified the charges of sexual exploitation from the report of the doctors,” the officer said. He said the police had zeroed in on some suspects and would interrogate them. He said cases would be registered by Friday night.
About 10 days ago, a case of sexual harassment was reported at the women’s home in Dehradun district that houses 103 women with mental disability and 32 “normal” women.
District magistrate Ravinath Raman formed a committee under additional district magistrate Jharna Kamthan to investigate the case. On November 24, CM Harish Rawat was informed about the findings of the committee. He ordered constituting a special investigation team of the police to conduct further inquiry.
