“Students, who are good at sports can apply through this category. The university and college will support the student in pursuing the sport during the three years of college,” said Anil Kumar Kalkal, director of DU’s sports council.

From this session, the university will give more weightage for sports trial to applicants, instead of giving equal weightage to trial and certificates.

Earlier, the university used to give 50% weightage to sports trial and 50% to sports certificates. However, now the admission committee is planning to give 60% weightage to trial and 40% to certificates.

The university has done away with common physical fitness test and will instead conduct sports’ specific physical fitness test. Applicants have to undergo a fitness test after which they will participate in the trials.

“We used to have a common physical fitness test for all students despite the fact that they applied for different sports. Every sport requires different kind of physical strength so this time we are planning to conduct sport-specific fitness test,” officials said.

Like last year, sports trial will be held at the college and only one sports trial will be conducted at one college. “We are in the process of allocating centers for different sports. This helps students as they don’t have to give sports trial at each college,” Kalkal said.

A student has to get minimum 30 marks in the trials to be admitted under the quota. However, the students who have represented the country in international events are given direct admission.
