Twenty-two cows were killed and two others injured while crossing the railway tracks at Holambi Kalan Wednesday evening. The incident took place when the Kalka Shatabdi train was passing through the area. The train had to be stalled for an hour until the tracks were cleared, officers said.
“The driver had applied emergency brakes on seeing the herd, but since the train was running at full speed, the cows were run over. Twenty-two cows were killed and two were injured. The injured cows were taken to a hospital... Engineers and railway staff reached the site and the track was temporally cleared,” said a senior RPF officer.
Nitin Chaudhary, chief public relations officer, Northern Railways, said, “Such a horrible incident could have been avoided if the handler used the gate instead of leaving the cattle on the track.”
