This year, for the first time in many years, the first cutoff across colleges recorded a dip in many courses. On Saturday, colleges recorded a handful of admissions. Colleges said that students preferred to wait and watch for the second list.

Delhi University colleges resumed the undergraduate admission process on Tuesday with many colleges, including those in the North and South campus, saying they may come up with a second cutoff list.

“Out of the total 624 seats, we approved admissions on 470 seats. BCom (hons) has 501 seats and 470 are already full. In Economics (hons) we have approved admissions for 130. There may not be a second list for Economics for the general category,” said officiating principal R P Rustagi.

At Hindu College, nearly 500 admissions were approved. The college has 752 seats. “There was a tremendous response today compared to the first day. We approved admissions to 500 seats. But we will know which courses may be closed for admission after we complete the process tomorrow,” said officiating principal Anju Srivastava.

At Kirori Mal College, only about 300 admissions were done by the end of the day. The college has a total of 1,179 seats and is most likely to come with a second cutoff for most courses.

“We have done almost 150 admissions on day one and a similar number today. We will bring a second cutoff list in most subjects as there are vacant seats in almost all courses as of today. But a clearly picture will come tomorrow when admissions are closed under the first list,” said officiating principal Dinesh Khattar.

At SGTB Khalsa, which had the highest cutoff for Economics and Electronics, less than 10 admissions were done on day two. The college has about 800 seats in total.

Out of the at least 1000 seats, Hans Raj College recorded only 117 admissions but the principal Rama, who goes by one name, said it is a continuing trend for some years. The principal said the college will bring out a second cutoff for most subjects, but the dip will be decided after Wednesday.

“Under the first cutoff we have been recording about 100 admissions for some years. It is after the second and third cutoff that a higher number of admissions are recorded,” she said.

There were only 268 admissions at Sri Venkateswara College against the total 1,058 seats. “Almost all courses will be open for admission in the second list,” said a member of the college admission committee.
