“Ten coaches of the train had entered the platform while the eleventh coach got derailed. There was another coach behind it. No passenger was hurt during the incident and no train was delayed as a result. The restoration of the track was ordered and the route was cleared immediately,” SC Jain, divisional railway manager (Delhi), said.

The officials said as the train was entering the platform at a reduced speed, the derailment did not result in any injury to any passenger. The platform is on the Vijay Nagar side of the Ghaziabad junction and id mostly used for arrival and departure of local trains.

“Prima facie. we are not clear about what caused the coach to derail. We have ordered an inquiry which is to be undertaken by senior officials. They will submit a report,” Jain said.

According to sources, the driver of the EMU train, on getting to know about some malfunction, applied the brakes suddenly. The jolted passengers exited the train in panic.

It is suspected that there could was some issue with the track interchanges, which diverts inbound trains to platform number six and five. However, the inquiry will figure out the exact reason behind the incident.

The railway police, on getting to know about the incident, rushed to the spot from their office which is located at platform number three and four. They helped passengers exit the train. The restoration work on the track went on till 2pm, railway officials said.
