The victim had got married in May last year and on April 22 he was going to his village in Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh to bring his wife to Delhi.

Sarvesh owned a kiosk selling cigarettes and betel leaves in Krishna Park area of Tilak Nagar. “On Wednesday around 11.30 pm when we were closing for the day two men, who were in a drunken state, bought some cigarettes from our shop. They refused to pay and had an argument with Sarvesh and his father. Sarvesh let them go and did not demand money since they were drunk. Little did we know that the two men would return with their other friends and would chase and beat us,” said Brijesh Bhardawaj, brother of the victim.

“We put up a fight with them but they outnumbered us. I along with Sarvesh’s father and my other cousin Pravesh ran for cover.”

“Sarvesh wandered his way and the goons cornered him in one of the alleys after chasing him. They beat him up to pulp with an iron rod and fled from the scene. Sarvesh was not dead. When we rushed to the spot, we found him bleeding profusely. Despite our repeated calls, the police did not come for our help,” added Brijesh. He claimed the police reached the spot after two hours.

Sarvesh was first rushed to DDU hospital and was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital. He died on Friday morning.

A case of murder has been registered at the Tilak Nagar Police Station. The two accused have been identified as Deepak (25) and Pradeep (21). Both of them are unemployed and live nearby.
