A haat for women, by women
The MCD is coming up with a haat where you will definitely find something for the special woman in your life.
Tired of looking for a gift for your girlfriend, mother or sister at all the wrong places? Do not fret. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is coming up with a haat where you will definitely find something for the special woman in your life.
The civic body will soon be developing a women’s haat, displaying products related exclusively to women. The added charm is that the products on display would also be made by women.
This haat would come up on the terrace of the multilevel underground car parking at Asaf Ali Road. The haat to be built on the lines of Dilli Haat would be developed on approximately 6000 square metres of area.
“We wanted to create a place where all products related to women will be present under one roof. This haat will give opportunity to women to showcase their work and earn a livelihood too,” said Mayor Arti Mehra.
The haat would also have an open amphitheatre for more than 200 persons to watch activities performed by artists from different states. “High quality street furniture such as seating benches, ornamental lights, signs, direction boards, pavements, flower pots, litter bins, pergolas, display areas, have been proposed to integrate all the proposed activities,” said a senior MCD official.
All the stalls in this haat would exhibit materials related to women such as household items, ornamental, furnishings, kitchen products, fabrics, etc. The proposed haat would have three categories of stalls and would accommodate more than 500 persons at a time. “The forum will be used for creating civic awareness and cultural interests. Two bandstands have also been proposed in the green area for playing live music,” added the official.
Depending on the success of this project, the civic body also plans to build five such haats in the Capital. Private security would also be provided.
The civic body will also allow advertisement on the walls of the haat to generate revenue. “Money generated from advertisement will be used for the management of the haat,” the Mayor added.
