All-party meet on trafficking convened

With the human trafficking case allegedly involving a BJP MP stirring a hornets' nest, the Lok Sabha Speaker has convened an all-party meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The meeting assumes significance as Delhi Police have re-issued notices to four MPs whose names were mentioned in the case, in which suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara, an accused, is in jail.

The four MPs — Ramswarup Koli (BJP), Mohammad Tahir Khan, Ashok Kumar Rawat and Mitrasen Yadav (all BSP) — have been asked to appear before police by tomorrow.

The Speaker has convened the meeting to discuss the issue of ethics in the wake of Katara episode.

The Katara affair kicked up a controversy amid demands from certain quarters to do away with facilities such as diplomatic passports given to MPs.

The 14th Lok Sabha has witnessed expulsion of as many as 10 members over a year ago in the wake of cash-for-query scam, an unprecedented development in Parliamentary history.

They were shown the door with the House approving a resolution in this regard.
