An Iranian touch to DU

Mohsen, an Iranian documentary filmmaker speaks about DU, the spirituality in India, Sridevi, Indian Cuisine and his further aspirations, reports Samir Sethi.

Mohsen, a documentary filmmaker from Iran, landed in Delhi with high learning ambitions and thronged the Delhi University gates. With guidance from a few professors, he managed to choose the course of his interest - the Certificate Course in Tibetan Language and Literature, offered by the Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Delhi.

He had always been enthusiastic about venturing out into unexplored domains. After doing his MSc in Mechanical engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology, he chose not to be another example of mob mentality and settle for the 9 to 5 office routine. Rather, he was lucky enough to land up with a job in the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. After that, there was no looking back for him. He has produced several documentaries since then, mostly on nature and culture and was also a part of the Nature Society.



In his quest to study the influence of spirituality on nature, he came to India, the place synonymous with spirituality and a host to diverse ethnic and religious groups.



At 37, he is young and lively and finds himself at ease among the teenage crowd, saying that they remind him of his college days, when he had a crush on Sridevi, the Indian movie star. He is also fond of Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan movies.



As far as Indian food is concerned, he finds it quite similar to the Iranian food, specially the meat preparations. He has visited some temples in Delhi and was amazed to see people worshipping a God with the head of an elephant (Lord Ganesha). He also plans to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra and Satya Sai Baba's ashram in Pune.When asked about his marital status, he blushed, revealing that he is still single and has no girlfriend either.



Before coming to India he visited Afghanistan and is planning to kick start a documentary about the life of people in post - Taliban Afghanistan and how it has changed now. He hopes to make a documentary on India some day.
